Nyepi Day or silent day is a unique day where entire island of Bali is silent. There is no traffic, fire and human activities are allowed on this day. Bali Island is keep black out on the night where is there is no single light is allowed. This is very unique where there is no one region or country can stop the activities within a day in the world, but here in Bali you can meet it. Nyepi day or silent day is a unique way of Balinese Hindu in Bali to celebrate their New Year which is called Caka Year. In this year, the Caka year is on 19 March 2007 where usual activities of procession to celebrate the Nyepi Day is held like Melasti Ceremony, Ogoh – Ogoh Precession and Ngembak Geni day.

Melasti Ceremony

Bali News, Nyepi Day, Bali CeremonyMelasti Ceremony is one of the important Balinese Hindu rituals that are held every one year before the Nyepi Day. This ceremony involves all Balinese Hindu to descend on road and carry or bring the object that is assumed holy with the god symbol. The procession of Melasti Ceremony is started from the center temple of the village where all the god symbols like Keris, Umbul-umbul, harpoon, flag, Pratima (deity idol) and others are collected. On the day of Melasti Ceremony, all Balinese Hindu in the island by together and form the line at the same time bring the deity symbol walk to the sea or other water sources like lake and river. Generally in Bali , the infinite symbols are brought to the sea to be re-sanctified with the sprinkling seawater that is called with the holy water or Tirta, afterward all of it are brought back to the temple accordingly. These events are very exciting and full of ornaments, decorations and Balinese Gamelan sound. A longside of road and coastal have been fulfilled by Balinese society that are using its custom clothes with the majority color of white.

Ogoh – Ogoh Procession or Big Giant DollPageant

Bali News, Ogoh-Ogoh idol, Nyepi dayOne day before the Nyepi Day / silent day, it was regularly big event in Bali to pageant the big giant idol which is called Ogoh-Ogoh. This procession is started at 18.00 and it idol is pageant to surround the village area with purpose of expulsion of late or evil ghost which can disturb human life. In generally, the procession of Ogoh-ogoh is executed hilarious considerably enthusiastic and where Balinese youth pour their art creativity on this Doll . The noisy of gamelan voice partake to enliven this event which can gratify and make surprise for every audience .

Ngembak Geni

Ngembak Geni is the beginning day of Caka Year that is usually used to visit each other among the humanity (socializing). The social ambience is very felt in this day where mostly the Balinese can meet each other and forgive the sin if they have made a mistake. Some of Balinese use this event to visit tourist site or other places of interest in Bali to relax and refresh from their busy life.
